A web content
management system (WCMS) is a software system which
provides website authoring and administration tools
designed to allow users with little knowledge of web
programming languages or markup languages to create and
manage the site's content with relative ease.
Most systems use a database to store content, metadata,
or artifacts that might be needed by the system. Content
is frequently, but not universally, stored as XML, to
facilitate, reuse, and enable flexible presentation
options.
Administration is done through browser-based interfaces,
so no software is required by the user.
Unlike Web-site builders, a WCMS allows non-technical
users to make changes to a website with little training.
A WCMS typically requires an experienced coder to set up
and add features, but is primarily a Web-site
maintenance tool for non-technical administrators.
Our Plesk servers have the following web content
management systems available in the "web
applications" area of the plesk control panel.
Anyone can install these with just the few
clicks of the mouse, however to really take
advantage of the system we recommend having the
original site designed by a professional and
then having them hand over the keys. This gives
you a professionally designed website but allows
you to make changes to all aspects of the site
without having to keep paying a designer to make
..PLUS you can make the changes on your own
timeframe instead of when the designers are able
to fit it in, very handy for running specials
and keeping your content fresh for visitors.
